Kerala represents an epitome of diversity with respect to her culture / natural resources / people etc,. Perhaps no other state in India has been blessed with such a salubrious climate, picturesque locations, abundant water resources, rich human resources etc. Kerala have been emerging as a centre of attraction with respect to tourism, IT, high-tech industries etc by exploiting the uniqueness of the resources of the state.
Land has been a topic of concern and discussion in a land dearth state like Kerala; ever since its formation in 1956. The landlessness of the poor though has been addressed greatly with the enactment of Kerala Land Reforms Act, 1963 and Kerala Land Assignment Act, 1960; a lot need to be done to minimize the plight of the landless in the state. The land acquisitions even for the projects of public interest are being objected at many instances; the public lands has been encroached upon by violating the Acts and Rules in force. The core of the issues is the lack of systematic record of Government owned lands. The over reliance of the sole records kept at village offices seems to be out of place and the chance of further deterioration of such records in quality and quantity is imminent due to the increased pressure on public lands in future.

Through Kerala State Land Bank, an attempt has been made to systematically inventorise all public lands, to professionally manage the same in future, in order to assure rational use of public lands, with the whole hearted support from the public, in the most transparent manner. |
